Changing file associations with Brave browser

Recently I’ve finally switched over to Brave browser. I did this for multiple reasons and while switching I found that changing file associations within brave, i.e. changing Brave’s behavior on opening and automatically saving a file with a specific extension was completely non-intuitive.

After some searching I found that the answer was reasonably simple. Brave browser utilizes the operating system system file extension associations for it’s decision making on what tool to open a file with.

So what this means is that you’ll need to adjust the file association handling within your operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc).

But wait, you’ve already adjusted this you say and it’s still not behaving as expected?

The final step here is to first download one of the files that you’re trying to associate, next open the download window dialog box and then right click on that item, you’ll see a few options such as ‘Open’, ‘Always open files of this type’ and other options below. Click on the ‘Always open files of this type’ and poof, it’s now opening files automatically with the correct application and problem solved.
